ASP.NET MVC3

I've just rewrote the presentation layer of my blog using asp.net mvc3 and razor and published it here: http://tanglang.at/blog/ I would really recommend anyone who only checks the blog to use this url from now on as it is much cleaner and easier to navigate. This is still in Beta and needs a lot of work but log on & registration, the blog and comments is working fine. Over the next few weeks I have got some time off and I will be adding some HTML5 elements and trying out a new jquery slider gallery. let me know if anythings broke!

Changes to Gallery

So I made a few small changes to the Gallery page. Firstly I added some new text to alert you if I add new photos to an existing gallery, this was because Suris gallery was growing each day and it was not clear that new photos had been added. The text shows if photos have been added in the last 5 days and the album is older than 5 days.

Secondly and more obvious is I have added a teaser reel of the first 7 photos in the album as thumbnail images, this is so if I add new photos you can see if you have already seen them or not without going into the album.

See what you think. The jury is still out on the thumbnails I might make a few adjustments in the coming days.

New Server

Just moved everything to a new server here in the States so that its easier for me to maintain. I decided to go with GoDaddy who apart from being well known for their Superbowl commercials have a pretty good reputation for customer service and I got a pretty great deal.

I've also configured google analytics so that I can get a better picture of the number and location of hits. So far i'm really impressed with this software, it just requires a small snippet of javascript and then it provides so much information which you can drill down into.

I've clicked around a bit and I see a few small issues (plus it seems a wee bit slow) but I will now be able to focus on ironing out the creases and hopefully moving forward with some new features. As you can see I had a bit of a spring cleaning and tidied the design up a bit, hope you like it.

Facebook LIKE button

I've grown to "like", the Like button in Facebook. Its a nice way to bookmark articles I read that I may want to come back to later or share with others and I also discover some articles through other like's. Its a perfect use of the world wide web to distribute and disseminate information.

So it seemed like the perfect task to get back into some feature development for the home page. Something that i've been neglecting for the past year due to being pretty busy in work and life. Now things are beginning to settle down to a more comfortable pace, I decided to add the Like button to my blog. Check it out.

Improved Gallery and added RSS Feed

Made 2 small improvements to the website:

First I improved the look of the gallery http://tanglang.at/tiles/gallery/gallery.aspx This is using the jquery simple gallery plug-in and I'm really happy with the results.

Second I added an RSS Feed to my blog http://tanglang.at/tiles/blog/blog.aspx?id=AFE64917-5463-407C-A157-96E0CC8539F3, which means if you have a RSS Reader (I can highly recommend the google reader) then you can be notified whenever I write a new post to my blog.

Added YouTube video embed to Blog

Last night I added some code to include YouTube videos to my blog. I also created a YouTube account (http://www.youtube.com/user/TangLangAT) so that I can host my videos without too much effort and I don't fill up my server with video files.

I've got a few cool videos that I want to highlight but first I need to find a decent video editing software because the old version of Adobe Premier I have is x86 and wont install on my new x64 PC.

At the moment i'm just gonna see how it goes, if it seems to work fine then I may move it over to the forum section and then perhaps copy the code over to the http://www.yoga-shala.at forums.

New Photos in Gallery

Last week I was in the U.K for a visit. It was my moms birthday and I was also invited to a wedding. Whilst I was there I took a few photos of my home town, it was weird seeing the town I was born and raised in through a tourists eye but it gave me a completely different perspective and appreciation of Kendal. (aka. The Auld Grey Town)

I recently had time to come back to this website and restructure it slightly and I decided since i'm paying for the domain name I should really use it much more. So instead of wasting my time on social networking sites I thought I would focus my attention on one place.

Most of the stuff remained from the old site but now it's all opened up so if you want to register and contribute you can, if not then you can just browse. I'm basically going to use it as a way to keep my family back in the U.K. up to date with what i'm doing. This is why I introduced the Blog section. I've not blogged before but Hell, whats one more contribution to clog up the blogosphere.
